Obesity and COVID-19: A Dangerous Disease Pairing
Obesity is a disease. Recognizing it as one can help us counter the impact of COVID-19.
As the COVID-19 pandemic spread around the world, it soon became evident that the disease was taking a disproportionate toll on people with obesity. Many studies have demonstrated that individuals with obesity are more likely to be hospitalized, admitted to intensive care or die than others. Along with old age, severe obesity is one of the greatest risk factors for hospitalization from COVID-19.
